Week #5 Wikis

I looked at all the suggested wikis and found a couple relevant to our workplace. Antioch University's Staff training and Support wiki, and St Joseph's County Public library's Subject guides were both good ideas and very tidy and easy to use the information posted.
The Twilight Saga wiki was a real eye-pleaser. Graphics and videos!! Wow!! Take a look at that one.
I think our library could do similar postings as those above, but there are simply not enough hours allocated to the library staffing for it to be done...and I mean done well, and do all the regular stuff too!!
I think it would be very useful to make information available to the public on a wiki eg explain what info is needed by the public and where you can look for, say, family history searches to lighten the enquiries to the library staff. -  a little like a self-help checklist before coming in to obtain the information. eg do you (the patron) have these details:
date of birth, place of birth, date of death, occupation etc. before contacting the staff. Also interaction with the wiki pages in maybe a Q & A type page A little like "Askalibrarian"  type set-up. Or is it all "bigger than Ben Hur?" Hmmmmm..

  2. Very good description Blogalicious. There is huge scope and I'm sure our library will utilise it more on a bigger scale in the future.
